Everyday Cheapskate: 16 Ways Car Wax Can Make Your Life Easier | Lifestyles

If there’s even the slightest chance that an old box of car wax is lying around in your garage or basement, it’s time to find it, dust it off, and hope it isn’t completely dry. Sure, car wax is good for waxing a car, but it comes in a lot of other ways around the house, some of which are quite amazing.

Car wax, whether paste or liquid, is formulated to fill in scratches, give a shine to non-porous surfaces like glass or metal, and leave them resistant to stains and stains.

As for which car wax works best, I prefer Meguiar’s Cleaning Wax because it cleans, polishes and leaves a nice finish – all in one step. Turtle Super Hard Shell Paste Wax is also a good choice. Just be aware that you will need to clean the surface first and then apply the car wax.

DISMEMBERABLE MIRRORS. Nothing like a good hot shower to mist the mirrors in the bathroom. Car wax is the secret to making them fog-free. Apply a small amount to the entire mirror; let it dry; then polish it with a soft dry cloth.

FIGHT MOLD. After using your regular cleaner, apply a coat of car wax to the inside and outside of a shower door and buff with a dry cloth to discourage mold growth and hard water marks.

DEVICES WITHOUT FINGERPRINT. Tired of smudges and fingerprints on your beautiful appliances? Apply a thin coat of car wax to stainless steel refrigerators and ranges. Polish clean and this surface will resist fingerprints and smudges.

TOOL MAINTENANCE. Say goodbye to rust on garden, garage and car tools forever when you apply a coat of car wax to all metal parts. Be sure to rub some wax into the hinges and moving parts to keep them from getting stuck and sticking.

EXTERIOR GRILL. Apply a good coat of car wax to the outside of the grill to make it shine, repel watermarks, and make it much easier to clean in the future. Make sure the grill is not exposed to the scorching sun when doing this.

MAKE DRAWERS AND WINDOWS EASIER TO OPEN. Rub a dab of car wax on the rails of drawers and windows to make them slide more easily.

GLOSSY TABLE TOP. Apply car wax to your plastic, laminate, and Formica table tops. Wipe it off, then wipe it off for a nice shine!

PATIO FURNITURE. Whether yours is metal, plastic, or molded vinyl, apply car wax the same way you would your car to protect it from rust, add shine, and repel water marks.

WHITE RINGS. Someone forgot to use a coaster, and that drink left a white ring on your beautiful furniture. No problem. Hit it with car wax. Rub it with your finger until the ring disappears. Let it dry, then polish it.

BACKREST. If you apply car wax to the areas behind your stove and sink, grease and grime will wash off easily. Your kitchen will shine too.

AVOID CORROSION. Everywhere you see it – on the mailbox, door frames, window frames, exterior light fixtures, garage door mechanisms – clean rust with car wax. You will automatically prevent further corrosion from weather and water.

GRANITE AND MARBLE. Apply a coat of car wax to granite and marble countertops to fill in fine scratches and restore the glossy finish and shine.

TO WARN: Car wax can leave a nice surface and leave the surface quite smooth. For this reason, do NOT use car wax on any floor – kitchen, porch, patio, tub or shower. This could easily create a very dangerous slip and fall hazard.
